The latest information about other local council electoral matters is as follows:
East Midlands
Bassetlaw district council: Byelection on 21 October in Harworth ward after the resignation of Labour councillor John Clayton. Term ends May 2011.
Blaby district council: Byelection on 7 October in Saxondale ward after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Alexandra Dilks. Term ends May 2011.
East of England
Cambridge city council: Byelection on 4 November in Coleridge ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Chris Howell due to frustration with local politics. Term ends 2012.
Norfolk county council: Vacancy in Humbleyard division due to the impending resignation of Conservative councillor and council leader Daniel Cox who is moving to India. Term ends 2013.
South Norfolk district council: Vacancy in Rustens ward due to the impending resignation of Conservative councillor Daniel Cox who is moving to India. Term ends May 2011.
Watford borough council: Byelection on 14 October in Central ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Sheila Smillie who is moving to Florida. Term ends May 2011.
Waveney district council: Vacancy in Southwold and Reydon after the resignation of Conservative councillor Simon Tobin due to pressure of business. Term ends 2014.
London
Camden borough council: Byelection on 28 October in Kentish Town ward after the death of Labour councillor Dave Horan. Term ends 2014.
Lewisham borough council: Byelection on 4 November in Ladywell ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Tim Shand who is to work for the Sonke Gender Justice Network human rights charity in South Africa. Term ends 2014.
Durham county council: John Turnbull was elected as councillor for Brandon ward on 30 September holding the seat for the Labour Party. There is a byelection on 14 October in Deneside ward after the death of Labour former council leader Albert Nugent. Both terms end in 2013.
North Tyneside borough council: Lesley Spillard of the Labour Party was elected councillor for Battle Hill ward on 30 September, holding the seat for her party.
Stockton-on-Tees borough council: There are three vacancies. First, Billingham East ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Alex Cunningham, now MP for Stockton North. Second, Ingleby Barwick East ward, caused by the resignation of Ingleby Barwick Independent Society member Andrew Larkin. Third, Mandale and Victoria ward, after the death of councillor Allison Trainer, who was a member of the Thornaby Independent Association. All three terms end in May 2011.
North West
Cheshire East council: The Conservative Party candidate Matthew Lloyd was elected councillor for Alderley ward on 30 September, holding the seat.
Lancaster city council: Byelection on 7 October in Harbour ward after the death of Morecambe Bay Independent councillor John Barnes. Term ends May 2011.
Liverpool city council: Vacancy in Croxteth ward, after the death of Labour councillor and Deputy Lord Mayor Rose Bailey. There is expected to be a double vacancy election due to the impending resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Phil Moffatt who is moving to Northern Ireland. Terms end 2011 and 2012.
Manchester city council: Byelection on 4 November in Hulme ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Emily Lomax, who has been charged with drink-driving. Term ends 2012.
Rossendale borough council: There are two byelections on 7 October. In Healey and Whitworth ward, Labour councillor Roger Wilson has resigned from a term due to end in May 2011; in Irwell ward, Conservative councillor Michael Christie has resigned from a term due to end in 2014, for health reasons.
Tameside borough council: Janet Cooper, standing for the Labour Party, was elected councillor for Longdendale ward on 30 September, holding the seat for her party.
Wyre borough council: Byelection on 7 October in Tithebarn ward after the death of Conservative councillor Peter Hawley. Term ends May 2011.
South East
Chiltern district council: There are two byelections on 21 October. Ashley Green, Latimer and Chenies ward will poll after the death of Conservative councillor Graham Sussum, and Great Missenden ward will poll after the resignation of Independent councillor Bob Swayne, who was elected as a Conservative. Term ends May 2011.
Crawley borough council: Byelection on 7 October in Tilgate ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Lawrence Taylor due to work commitments. Term ends 2012.
Elmbridge borough council: There are two byelections on 21 October. That in Hersham North is for a term ending in 2012 and arises from the resignation of Conservative councillor Doug Packer, who is moving out of the borough; that in St George’s Hill ward is for a term ending May 2011 and follows the death of John Bartlett, an Independent councillor and former cabinet member.
Hampshire county council: Byelection on 21 October in Andover South division after the death of Conservative councillor David Kirk. Term ends 2013.
Mole Valley district council: Byelection on 21 October in Capel, Leigh and Newdigate ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Philip Warren. Term ends 2014.
Oxford city council: Byelection on 21 October in Barton and Sandhills ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat deputy leader Patrick Murray who is moving out of the city. Term ends 2012.
Tunbridge Wells district council: Byelection on 7 October in St James ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Mary Lewis. Term ends 2012.
West Sussex county council: Byelection on 7 October in Maidenbower division due to the impending resignation of former council leader Henry Smith, who is now MP for Crawley. Term ends 2013.
Winchester city council: Byelection on 14 October in St Paul ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Karen Barratt. If the Liberal Democrats do not win, then they will lose their majority on the council. Term ends May 2011.
Mendip district council: Byelection on 21 October in Ashwick, Chilcompton and Stratton ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Maxine Oxford. Term ends May 2011.
Poole council: Vacancy in Poole Town ward after the death of council leader and Conservative councillor Brian Leverett. Term ends May 2011.
Sedgemoor district council: The Conservative Party candidate Alison Hamlin was elected councillor for Woolavington ward on 30 September. This is a gain of a seat previously held by the Labour Party.
Swindon borough council: Byelection on 4 November in Moredon ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Steph Exell. Term ends May 2011.
West Midlands
Herefordshire council: Byelection on 14 October in St Nicholas ward, after the death of Independent councillor David Benjamin. Term ends May 2011.
Leeds city council: Byelection on 14 October in Guiseley and Rawdon ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Stuart Andrew, now MP for Pudsey. Term ends May 2011.
Sheffield city council: Byelection on 21 October in Manor Castle ward after the death of Labour councillor and former council leader Jan Wilson. Term ends 2014.
York city council: Byelection on 14 October in Hull Road ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Roger Pierce due to ill health. Term ends May 2011.
Ceredigion county council: Vacancy in Ciliau Aeron ward after the disqualification of Plaid Cymru councillor Moelfryn Maskell, who was found by the Adjudication Panel of Wales to have misused his position in relation to planning applications. Term ends 2012.
Gwynedd county council: Plaid Cymru candidate Paul Thomas was elected councillor for Bowydd and Rhiw ward on 30 September, gaining the seat from Llais Gwynedd. There is a byelection on 7 October in Seiont ward after the death of Independent councillor Bob Anderson. Term ends in 2012.
Isle of Anglesey council: Byelection on 18 November in Rhosneigr ward after the resignation of ‘Original Independent’ councillor and former council leader Phil Fowlie, due to ill health (although he has since been disqualified from office). Term ends 2012.
Swansea city council: Byelection on 21 October in Newton ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Susan Waller. Term ends 2012.
Scotland
Moray council: Byelection on 11 November in Forres ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Iain Young. Term ends 2012.
South Lanarkshire council: Byelection on 28 October in East Kilbride West ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Michael McCann, now MP for East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow. Term ends 2012.
