  • Stockton-on-Tees borough council: There are three vacancies. First, Billingham East ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Alex Cunningham, now MP for Stockton North. Second, Ingleby Barwick East ward, caused by the resignation of Ingleby Barwick Independent Society member Andrew Larkin. Third, Mandale and Victoria ward, after the death of councillor Allison Trainer, who was a member of the Thornaby Independent Association. All three terms end in May 2011.

  • Chiltern district council: Conservative candidates Andrew Garth and Gilbert Nockles were elected councillors for Ashley Green, Latimer and Chenies ward and Great Missenden ward respectively on 21 October. Both seats elected Conservatives at the previous election but the sitting councillor for Great Missenden had been an Independent at the time of his resignation.
  • Elmbridge borough council: Conservative candidate Simon Desborough was elected councillor for Hersham North by 10 votes on 21 October, while Peter Harman (a St Georges Hill Independent) was elected for St Georges Hill ward. Both seats stay with the party that formerly held them.

He takes over a seat which Labour won in 2007, was gained in August by a Conservative councillor in a previous byelection, and was then vacated after only 13 days because the successful candidate was advised that the role was incompatible with being a Special Constable.
  • Mole Valley district council: Liberal Democrat candidate Iain Murdoch was elected councillor for Capel, Leigh and Newdigate ward on 21 October, gaining the seat from the Conservatives. His win means the Liberal Democrats become the largest party on the council; there was speculation before the election that the Independent group might change allegiances and bring about a change in council control in these circumstances.
  • Oxford city council: Labour candidate Mike Rowley was elected councillor for Barton and Sandhills ward on 21 October, gaining the seat from the Liberal Democrats and increasing Labour’s narrow overall majority on the council.
