Braintree district council: Byelection on 24 June in Braintree South ward after the disqualification of Conservative councillor Russell Wilkins, who has failed to attend any meetings in six months. Term ends May 2011.
Barking and Dagenham borough council: Byelection on 8 July in Goresbrook ward after the disqualification of Labour councillor Louise Couling who was, as a school crossings officer (lollipop lady), employed by the authority. Term ends 2014.
Hyndburn borough council: There will be a minority Conservative administration for the next year. Vacancy in Peel ward after the resignation of Labour councillor and former council leader Graham Jones, who was elected MP for Hyndburn in the general election. Term ends 2012.
Brighton and Hove council: Vacancy in St Peter’s and North Laine ward, after the resignation of Green group leader Keith Taylor who is to replace Caroline Lucas as Member of the European Parliament. Ms Lucas was elected to the United Kingdom Parliament last week and the European Parliament now prohibits ‘dual mandate’ members. Term ends 2011.
Hastings borough council: The election of a councillor for Ore ward has been postponed until 17 June after the death of sitting Conservative councillor Roy Tucker who had been nominated for re-election.
Isle of Wight council: Gary Taylor was elected councillor for Ryde South ward on 27 May, gaining the seat for the Conservatives which had previously been won by the Liberal Democrats (although the outgoing councillor was non-party at the time of his disqualification).
Wycombe district council: Vacancy in Greater Marlow ward after the disqualification of Conservative councillor Helen Wilkinson who has failed to attend any meeting in six months and whose leave of absence has expired. Term ends May 2011.
East Dorset district council: Vacancy in Corfe Mullen South ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Stewart Hearn whose challenge for the leadership of his group was unsuccessful. Term ends 2011.
Shropshire council: Byelection on 1 July in Clee ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Paul Andrews, who had been suspended for four months by the Adjudication Panel for England. Term ends 2013.
Stoke-on-Trent city council: Following the council elections in which Labour made gains, a new four party coalition administration has taken over. The executive will comprise five Labour councillors (including the leader), two members of the Conservative and Independent Alliance, two members of the City Independents, and one Liberal Democrat. Two members of the City Independents, Alan Rigby (Norton and Bradeley ward) and Janine Bridges (Chell and Packmoor ward), have left the group as they were opposed to entering this coalition.
