There were no byelections held on the first Thursday in August, with local parties preferring to avoid scheduling contests for a time when many people are away on summer holidays. There has been a significant change of allegiance by three councillors on Durham council leaving the Liberal Democrat group. The three are John Bailey and Patricia Jopling (both of Crook North and Tow Law ward), and Sam Zair (Bishop Auckland Town ward).
