Harrogate seat stays yellow

The last week was a tranquil one electorally, with only one byelection and no councillors announcing that they are switching parties. The only byelection was itself a Liberal Democrat hold in the safe Starbeck ward on Harrogate borough council; Janet Law was the successful candidate. It also falls to be noted that a byelection poll which was to have taken place in West Somerset district council‘s West Quantock ward on 17 September will not now happen because only one nomination was received. Stuart Dowding (Conservative) was therefore elected unopposed – gaining the seat from an Independent councillor.
