Enley Taylor, who was elected as a Conservative to Croydon borough council in 2002 and re-elected in 2006 (Heathfield ward), has left the Conservative group to sit as an Independent councillor. Cllr Taylor was cabinet member for community cohesion when the Conservatives won power in 2006 but was sacked from the cabinet last year, when his portfolio was also split in two. His discontent with the Conservative group was public knowledge and it was claimed he refused to campaign for Boris Johnson in the Mayoral election.
In Blackburn with Darwen council, the dispute which led ‘For Darwen’ to leave the executive has been patched up with the group accepting defeat on the wording of the referendum on Darwen town council and returning to the executive. As compensation, their leader Tony Melia is now deputy leader of the council.
