Three Liberal Democrats on Shepway district council have recently moved to the Conservatives. Emily Sanger, a former Mayor of Folkestone, is the most prominent; Peter Gane and Martin Salmon are the others.
On Bolton borough council, Richard Silvester – who was elected as a Liberal Democrat, but had been sitting as an Independent – has now joined the Labour Party.
We note also the recent decision by Merton borough council‘s Angela Caldara to leave the Conservative group. Meanwhile the defection of four councillors from the two Respect groups on Tower Hamlets to the Labour group has hit a snag, as the Leader and Deputy Leader of the Labour Group have refused to sign the papers to allow them in the group.
