The Liberal Democrats gained Vassall ward in Lambeth borough council from Labour on Thursday night. The other two byelections saw the British National Party hold off a Labour challenge to keep Gooshays ward, Havering borough council, and the Conservatives easily retain Yapton ward, Arun district council.
