Conservatives take control of Telford

Telford and Wrekin council‘s Conservative administration achieved a majority with the Mayor’s casting vote in the byelections last night, when the party held Wrockwardine ward and gained Horsehay and Lightmoor ward from an Independent. The Conservatives were also celebrating in Vale of White Horse district council where they gained Wantage Charlton ward from the Liberal Democrats; the party held a seat at Marton West ward, Middlesbrough borough council.

Although losing the district council seat in Wantage, the Liberal Democrats held on to the Grove and Wantage division on Oxfordshire county council, and a Liberal Democrat-supported Independent won the Wallingford division which the party had previously held. The party also defended a seat at Queen’s Park ward, Brent borough council, and gained from the Conservatives at Water Park ward, Cotswold district council.

Labour held seats at Gresham ward, Middlesbrough borough council, and Marlborough ward, Harrow borough council.
