Frances McIntyre, elected as a Liberal Democrat to Middlesbrough council, has joined the Labour Party. Her defection effectively eliminates the Liberal Democrats as a group as they now have only one member (Maelor Williams).
In addition Paul Hopfenberger, a Suffolk county councillor, has left the Conservative group in order to stand as an Independent for Bury St Edmunds town council.
