With no principal authority byelections this week we just have a list of the ones in the pipeline.

- Bradwell South and Hopton ward, Great Yamouth borough council, following the resignation of Brian Howard (Conservative). His replacement will serve until 2011.
- Butt Lane ward, Newcastle-under-Lyme borough council, caused by the death of Labour councillor Mavis Lench. Her term had been due to end in 2010.
- Copnor ward, Portsmouth city council, following the death of Alan Langford (Conservative). His term had been due to expire in 2011.
- Harpenden South West division, Hertfordshire county council after the death of Iris Tarry (Conservative). The winner will serve until 2009.
- Holt and Paxcroft division, Wiltshire county council, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat Sarah Content in protest at the proposal for a unitary authority in Wiltshire. The winner will serve until 2009.
- Marlow North and West ward, Wycombe district council, following the resignation of Tony Dunn who has taken a politically restricted post. His replacement will serve until 2011.
- Roughton ward, East Lindsey district council, caused by the resignation of Andrew Baxter who had a majority of 1 vote for the Conservatives. The term ends in 2011.
- Tavistock North ward, West Devon district council, caused by the death of Conservative councillor Shaun Watchorn. He had just been elected to a term ending in 2011.
- Thornton Cleveleys division, Lancashire county council after the death of Conservative councillor Keith Tebbs. The winner serves until May 2009.
- Trowbridge East division, Wiltshire county council, caused by the death of Liberal Democrat former mayor Grace Hill. The term ends in 2009.
- Victoria ward, Wyre borough council, also following the death of Keith Tebbs. This seat lasts until 2011.

- Elgin City South ward, Moray council, caused by the death of Alastair Bisset who was an Independent councillor. The term ends in 2011.
- Leyton ward, Waltham Forest borough council, to replace Miranda Grell who had been elected for the Labour Party. Grell was disqualified from membership when she was convicted of making false statements about another candidate at her original election. Her replacement will serve until 2010.
- Stretton ward, East Staffordshire borough council, after the resignation of Ian Bradley (Conservative). His replacement will serve until 2011.
- Tulketh ward, Preston city council after the death of Jean Al-Seraj (Labour). The winner will serve until 2010.

- Cambuslang East ward, South Lanarkshire council, caused by the death of John Higgins (SNP). His replacement serves until 2011.

There are known to be Conservative vacancies in Borehamwood Hillside ward, Hertsmere borough council, following a resignation, in Hawks Green ward of Cannock Chase district council after the death of deputy leader of the council Reg Butler, in Hockley West ward, Rochford district council, following the disqualification of Liv Hungate for failing to attend any meetings in six months, in Marton ward, Middlesbrough borough council, after the death of Terry Ward, in St John’s ward, Rushmoor district council after the death of Graham Tucker, in St Mary’s ward, Adur district council following the death of Mike Howard, and in Wrenthorpe and Outwood West ward, Wakefield borough council, after the resignation of Anthony Calvert.
Labour seats are vacant in each of Bedwell division of Hertfordshire county council and Pin Green ward, Stevenage borough council, after the death of Tanis Kent, in Holmewood and Heath ward, North East Derbyshire district council, following the death of Terry Fisher, in Lawford and New Bilton division, Warwickshire county council, following the death of Bryan Levy, in Netherton and Orrell ward, Sefton borough council, after the death of group leader Dave Martin, in Tanhouse ward of West Lancashire district council after the death of Sally Keegan, and in Walkden South ward, Salford city council, following the resignation of Stan Witkowski.
The Liberal Democrats have vacancies in Fortune Green ward, Camden borough council, after the death of Jane Schopflin, in both Grove and Wantage division, Oxfordshire county council and Wantage Charlton ward, Vale of White Horse district council after the death of Jim Moley, and in Walton ward, Peterborough city council, caused by the resignation of David Vellam.
