Forthcoming byelections

The following local authority byelections are forthcoming:

27 September

  • Aylesham ward, Dover district council, to replace the late Helen Bartolo (Labour) for a term ending in 2011.
  • Chester Central ward, Chester-le-Street district council, following the death of Gordon Kerr (Labour). The winner serves until 2011.
  • Dover town division, Kent county council, following the resignation of Keith Sansum (Labour). The term ends in 2009.
  • Gowy division, Cheshire county council, caused by the death of John Burke (Conservative). The winner will serve until 2009.
  • Lindhurst ward, Mansfield borough council, following the resignation of Stewart Rickersey (Independent). The term ends in 2011.
  • Lloyds division, Northamptonshire county council, caused by the death of Labour councillor Jimmy Kane. This term lasts to 2009.
  • Maxton, Elms Vale and Priory ward, Dover district council, which like the Dover Town county division follows the resignation of Keith Sansum (Labour). This term ends in 2011.
  • Nelson ward, Portsmouth city council, caused by the resignation of Pat Bateman (Labour) who has moved to Scotland. Her term would have expired in May.
  • Washington East ward, Sunderland city council, caused by the resignation of Labour councillor Neil MacKnight. The winner will serve to 2010.

4 October

  • Datchet ward, Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, caused by the death of Elizabeth Hawkes (Conservative). The winner serves until 2011.
  • Helensburgh and Lomond South ward, Argyll and Bute council, caused by the death of Ronald Kinloch who was an Independent. The term runs to 2011.
  • Northallerton Broomfield ward, Hambleton district council, to replace Ken Pullan (Conservative). This byelection was originally scheduled but the vacancy appears to have been filled unopposed by Peter Wilkinson (Conservative).
  • Shepshed division, Leicestershire county council, following the death of Graham Perkins (Labour). The winner will serve until 2009.

11 October

  • Holbrook West ward, Horsham district council, following the resignation of Roger Edworthy (Conservative). The term lasts until 2011.

18 October

25 October

  • Gwinear, Gwithian and Hayle East, Penwith district council, caused by the resignation of Sarah Roskilly (Conservative). The term is a short one, ending in May 2008.
  • Nelson ward, Great Yarmouth borough council, after the death of Sue Robinson (Labour). Her term would have run to 2011. Previously listed erroneously for 27 September.

22 November

  • Lochee ward, Dundee city council, caused by the resignation of SNP councillor Nigel Don after his election to the Scottish Parliament. The winner will serve until 2011.

Undated

There are known to be vacancies in Church Gresley ward, South Derbyshire district council (caused by the death of Labour councillor Bob Southern) and in Witheridge ward, North Devon district council (caused by the resignation of Conservative councillor Nancy Lewis).
