With most councils having full elections in May, the ‘six month rule’ (that no byelection is held in the last six months before a full election) means that there are fewer byelections than normal.

Some that are coming up include:

18 January
Dalton North ward (Barrow-in-Furness) following the death of William Crosthwaite (Conservative).

25 January
Barton (New Forest), vacancy left by Ken Austin (Conservative). The Conservatives would lose majority control of the council if they failed to win it.
Witney Central (West Oxfordshire) following the disappearance of Andrew Creery (Conservative).
Hucknall (Nottinghamshire) following the death of Nellie Smedley (Labour).

1 February
Brockworth (Tewkesbury) following the resignation of Sean Connors (Brockworth Residents Group)

8 February
Bede (Nuneaton and Bedworth) following the resignation of Sheila Hancox (Lab) who took a politically restricted job under the Widdicombe rules. If Labour do not retain this, they lose overall control of the council.
East Barnet ward (Barnet Borough), due to the death from cancer of Olwen Evans (Conservative).
Bensham Manor ward (Croydon Borough) following the resignation of Paula Shaw (Lab).
