Green Party 1, Independent 1. Southern tip of Dorset (Portland Bill), with a very large harbour that hosted Olympic sailing. Weymouth is a coastal resort, while Portland has a naval base.

The council is due to be abolished as of 1 April 2019 to instate unitary local government in Dorset. Weymouth West has a byelection on 3 May (held by a Green Party councillor elected as a Conservative). Francis Drake (Melcombe Regis) moved from UK Independence Party to Conservative in February 2018. At a byelection on 8 February, the Conservatives gained Tophill East from an Independent. The council leader is a Conservative.
