Independent 1. East Midlands city, known for its ethnic diversity (particularly south Asian communities). Clothing industry and an important university centre; was shortlisted for UK City of Culture in 2013. Sir Peter Soulsby has been directly-elected Mayor since 2011, although with some controversy over whether the role should continue.

Deepak Bajaj (Evington) moved from Conservative to Labour in April 2024.
