Independent Union 7, Independent 5, Socialist Labour Party 2. Port and manufacturing town, originally in Durham and then in the former county of Cleveland. Famous as the town which hanged a monkey mistaken for a foreign sailor; the monkey mascot of Hartlepool FC was elected as Mayor in 2002.

Sandra Belcher (Jesmond) and Allan Barclay (Manor House) moved from Labour to Socialist Labour Party in April 2019. Putting Hartlepool First (with four councillors) disbanded in February 2019.
