Independents 7, Putting Hartleppol First 4. Port and manufacturing town, originally in Durham and then in the former county of Cleveland. Famous as the town which hanged a monkey mistaken for a foreign sailor; the monkey mascot of Hartlepool FC was elected as Mayor in 2002.

Rural West ward has a byelection on 12 July (held by the Conservatives). Five UKIP members formed the Hartlepool Independent Group in January 2018.
