East London borough, including Shoreditch media industries and an orthodox Jewish enclave in Stamford Hill. Jules Pipe put the council back in order after a catastrophic split in 1996, as leader and then Mayor. Since 2023 the Mayor has been Caroline Woodley.
There are byelections in De Beauvoir and Hoxton East and Shoreditch wards on 2 May (both held by Labour). The Conservatives gained Cazenove from Labour at a byelection on 18 January.
