Independents 2, no group 1. Dorset (originally Hampshire) coastal town, very popular retirement area with the highest proportion of pensioners in Britain. Shares a chief executive with East Dorset.

The council is due to be merged with Bournemouth and Poole as from 1 April 2019. Janet Abbott (Grange) moved from UK Independence Party to Conservative, and Sally Derham Wilkes (North Highcliffe and Walkford) moved from Conservative to no group, in November 2018.
