Independent 12. Based around Ebbw Vale, also including Tredegar. Coal and steel industries wound down in the 1980s but manufacturing remains. An iconically Labour area (Nye Bevan's home town), but was lost to mostly ex-Labour independents in 2008.
An Independent won Ebbw Vale South from a Labour councillor elected as an Independent, at a byelection on 8 February.
