Ashfield Independents 8, Independents 6, Selston Parish Independents 2. Mining area including some D.H. Lawrence country, north of Nottingham; includes Lord Byron's ancestral home. Traditionally Labour but Independents did well after 2000.

Four Labour councillors moved to Independent in April 2018, resulting in Labour losing control to the Ashfield Independents and Selston Parish Independents. Lee Anderson (Huthwaite and Brierley) and Chris Baron (Hucknall West) moved from Labour to Conservative in March 2018, while Steve Carroll (Sutton Junction and Harlow Wood) moved from Labour to Independent.
