The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Cotswold: The byelection in Grumbolds Ash with Avening ward on 23 November was won by Richard Morgan. Conservative hold.
  • Dover: The byelection in St Margaret’s-at-Cliffe ward on 23 November was won by Peter Jull. Conservative hold.
  • Herefordshire: The byelection in Bishops Frome and Cradley ward on 23 November was won by Ellie Chowns. Green Party gain from Conservative.
  • Leicester: The byelection in Eyres Monsell ward on 23 November was won by Elaine Pantling. Labour hold.
  • Neath Port Talbot: The byelection in Bryncoch South division on 23 November was won by Jo Hale. Plaid Cymru hold.
  • Perth and Kinross: The byelection in Perth City South ward on 23 November was won by Audrey Coates. Conservative hold.
  • South Lanarkshire: The byelection in Rutherglen Central and North ward on 23 November was won by Martin Lennon. Labour hold.
  • Stockton-on-Tees: The byelection in Parkfield and Oxbridge ward on 23 November was won by Louise Baldock. Labour hold.
  • Stroud: The byelection in Chalford ward on 23 November was won by Darren Loftus. Conservative hold.
  • Wakefield: The byelection in Wakefield West ward on 23 November was won by Michael Graham. Labour hold.

Changes of allegiance

  • Moray: Walter Wilson, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Speyside Glenlivet ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent, citing opposition to budget cuts.
  • Portsmouth: Julie Bird, who was elected for the UK Independence Party in Fratton ward but left them in June, has now joined the Conservative Party. The Conservatives now have half of all the councillors.
  • Stevenage: Doug Bainbridge, who was elected for the Labour Party in Longmeadow ward, has joined the Conservative Party. He criticises the council’s Labour administration for delays to town centre regeneration; however his move comes after he was not reselected as a candidate for re-election in 2018.
  • Tower Hamlets: Mohammed Mufti Miah, who was originally elected for Tower Hamlets First in Bromley North ward, has rejoined the Independent Group which was set up when Tower Hamlets First was dissolved. He had left the group in the summer of 2015.

New vacancies

  • Doncaster: Armthorpe ward, after the death of Labour councillor Tony Corden. Term ends 2019.
  • Hertsmere: Borehamwood Cowley Hill ward, after the disqualification of Independent councillor David Burcombe who was elected for the Conservatives. Term ends 2019.
  • Oxford: Northfield Brook ward, after the death of Labour councillor Jennifer Pegg. As her term was due to end in May, there will be no byelection.

Date for byelection

  • Hertsmere: The byelection due in Borehamwood Cowley Hill ward will be held on 4 January 2018.
