The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
Changes of allegiance
- Brent: Two members of the Conservative group have changed over to the rival breakaway Brent Conservative group. They are Joel Davidson (Brondesbury Park ward) who is returning to the group he left in October 2016, and Michael Maurice (Kenton ward). The move makes the Brent Conservative group the official opposition.
- Lancashire: David Stansfield, who was eleced for the Conservatives in Rossendale West division, is reported to have been expelled from the party over his benefit claims, and is now sitting with ‘No description’.
- North Norfolk: Nigel Pearce, who was elected for the Conservatives in Suffield Park ward, has joined the Liberal Democrats.
- Peterborough: Darren Fower, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Gunthorpe ward, has left the party. He is currently sitting as an Independent councillor but is seeking to join the Labour Party.
- Rossendale: David Stansfield, who was elected for the Conservatives in Helmshore ward, is reported to have been expelled from the party over his benefit claims, and is now sitting as an Independent councillor.
New vacancies
- North Devon: Braunton East ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Roy Lucas. Term ends 2019.
- Sefton: Dukes ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Pat Ball due to ill health. Term ends 2019.
Dates for byelections
- Arun: The byelection due in Aldwick West ward will be held on 2 November.
- Charnwood: The byelection for two seats in Loughborough Hastings ward will be held on 26 October.
- Derbyshire Dales: The byelection due in Ashbourne South ward will be held on 26 October.
- Kirklees: The byelection due in Batley East ward will be held on 26 October.
- North Devon: The byelection due in Braunton East ward will be held on 2 November.
Other updates
- We regret to report the death of Mark Senior of Worthing, well known on several internet forums discussing local elections. He gave considerable help in detecting incidents where councillors had resigned, died or changed parties without much publicity.
