The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Eden: The byelection in Alston Moor ward on 20 July was won by Lissie Sharp. Labour gain from Liberal Democrats (who did not seek to retain the seat).
  • Knowsley: The byelection in St Michael’s ward on 20 July was won by Mike Kearns. Labour hold.
  • Merton: The byelection in St Helier ward on 20 July was won by Kelly Braund. Labour hold.
  • Rutland: The byelection held in Ketton ward on 20 July was won by Gordon Brown. Conservative hold.
  • Rutland: The byelection held in Whissendine ward on 20 July was won by Ian Arnold. Independent gain from Liberal Democrat.
  • Shepway: The byelection in New Romney ward on 20 July was won by Russell Tillson. Conservative hold.
  • Staffordshire Moorlands: The byelection in Leek East ward on 20 July was won by Darren Price. Labour gain from Conservative.
  • Stockton-on-Tees: The byelection in Billingham North ward on 20 July was won by Paul Weston. Labour hold.
  • Wealden: The byelection in Chiddingly and East Hoathly ward on 20 July was won by David Watts. Conservative hold.

New vacancies

  • Colchester: Shrub End ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Karen Chaplin. Term ends 2019.
  • East Cambridgeshire: Ely South ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Tom Hunt, who has taken a politically restricted post with the Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Term ends 2019.
  • Highland: Tain and Easter Ross ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Jamie Stone, now Member of Parliament for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross. Term ends 2022.

Dates for byelections

  • Aberdeenshire: The byelection due in Inverurie and District ward will be held on 12 October.
  • Glasgow: The byelection due in Cardonald ward will be held on 7 September.
