The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Dover: The byelection in Aylesham ward on 22 December was won by Gordon Cowan. Labour hold.
Eastleigh: The byelection in Hedge End Wildern ward on 22 December was won by Ian Corben. Liberal Democrat hold.
Waverley: The byelection in Cranleigh West ward on 21 December was won by Liz Townsend. Conservative hold.
Changes of allegiance
Hart: Two councillors representing Fleet West ward who were elected for the Conservative Party have joined the Community Campaign (Hart). They are Sara Kinnell and Richard Woods. Their move may endanger Conservative control of the council.
Christchurch: Mudeford and Friars Cliff ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Andy Barfield who had come under criticism for failing to pay his council tax. Term ends 2019.
Denbighshire: Denbigh Lower division, after the death of Independent councillor Raymond Bartley. As his term was due to end in May, he will not be replaced in a byelection.
East Hertfordshire: Hertford Castle ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Kevin Brush. Term ends 2019.
Fylde: St John’s ward, after the disqualification of Fylde Ratepayers’ councillor Mark Bamforth who failed to attend a meeting of the council for six months. The disqualification is controversial as Bamforth suffers from agoraphobia, making it difficult for him to attend meetings. Term ends 2019.
