The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Charnwood: The byelection in Thurmaston ward on 31 July was won by Ralph Raven. Labour gain from Conservative.
  • Flintshire: The byelection in Mostyn division on 31 July was won by David Roney. Independent hold.
  • Merthyr Tydfil: The byelection in Penydarren division on 31 July was won by John McCarthy. Labour gain from UK Independence Party.
  • Rother: The byelection in Darwell ward on 31 July was won by Eleanor Kirby-Green. Conservative hold.

New vacancies

  • Argyll and Bute: Oban North and Lorn ward, after the death of Independent councillor John MacGregor only ten days after he won his seat in a byelection. Term ends 2017.
  • Bolton: Harper Green ward, after the death of Labour councillor Asha Ali Ismail who had won the ward in a byelection on 19 December last year. Term ends 2015.
  • Cumbria: Windermere division, after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Jo Stephenson, a former deputy leader of the county council. Term ends 2017.
  • Guildford: Lovelace ward, after the death of Conservative councillor John Garrett. Term ends 2015.
  • Newark and Sherwood: Collingham and Meering ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Derek Evans. Term ends 2011.
  • Oxford: Carfax ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Anne-Marie Canning. Term ends 2016.
  • Rushmoor: West Heath ward, after the resignation of UK Independence Party councillor Malcolm Small. Term ends 2015.
  • Somerset: Frome North division, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Sam Phripp. Term ends 2017.
  • South Lakeland: Windermere Town ward, after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Jo Stephenson, who won the ward at a byelection on 9 February 2012. Term ends 2015.

Dates for byelections

  • Newark and Sherwood: Byelections will be held in the wards of Collingham and Meering, and Ollerton, on 11 September.
  • Oxford: The byelection due in Carfax ward will take place on 4 September.
  • Surrey Heath: The byelection due in Old Dean ward will take place on 4 September.
