The latest information about local electoral matters is as follows:

East of England

East Midlands

London

  • Brent borough council: Impending vacancy in Dudden Hill ward where Liberal Democrat councillor Rev David Clues has said he is intending to resign in November (within six months of a full council election). He has been living and working in Brighton since December 2011.
  • Lambeth borough council: Paul Gadsby was elected councillor for Vassall ward on 28 November. He holds the seat for the Labour Party, although the previous councillor had not always retained the Labour whip on the council.
  • Waltham Forest borough council: Vacancy in Higham Hill ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Geoff Hammond. As the vacancy occurred within six months of the end of the term, no byelection will be held.

  • Wiltshire council: Vacancy in Ethandune division after the death of Conservative councillor Linda Conley, who was portfolio holder for waste. Term ends 2017.

  • Glasgow city council: Byelection on 5 December in Shettleston ward after the death of Labour councillor George Ryan. Term ends 2017.
  • Highland council: Retired Chief Inspector Matthew Reiss was elected councillor for Landward Caithness ward on 28 November. He stood as an Independent candidate and wins a seat previously held by the Scottish National Party. There will then be a byelection on 19 December in Black Isle ward after the death of Independent councillor Billy Barclay. Both terms end in 2017.
  • Moray council: Byelection on 30 January 2014 in Buckie ward after the resignation of Independent councillor Anne McKay. Term ends 2017. The current Independent and Conservative administration would lose its overall majority if the new councillor does not support it.
  • North Lanarkshire council: Byelection on 23 January 2014 in Motherwell North ward after the death of Labour councillor Annita McAuley. Term ends 2017.
