The latest information about local electoral matters is as follows:
East of England
- Braintree district council: Celia Burne was elected councillor for Braintree East ward on 25 July, holding the seat for the Labour Party following a previous byelection gain in March 2012.
- Central Bedfordshire council: Byelection on 12 September in Dunstable Northfields ward after the death of Conservative councillor Denise Green. Term ends 2015.
- Hertfordshire county council: Byelection on 12 September in Hitchin North division after the death of Labour councillor David Billing. Term ends 2017.
- Norfolk county council: Byelection on 1 August in Thetford West division after the resignation of UK Independence Party councillor Peter Georgiou, who was cautioned for shoplifting in 2012. Term ends 2017.
- North Hertfordshire district council: Byelection on 12 September in Hitchin Oughton ward after the death of former Labour group leader David Billing. Term ends May 2014.
- St Edmundsbury borough council: Byelection on 5 September in Bardwell ward after the death of Conservative councillor John Hale. Term ends 2015.
- Tendring district council: Vacancy in St James’s ward after the death of Conservative councillor Gill Downing. Term ends 2015.
- Uttlesford district council: Byelection on 25 July in Felsted ward after the disqualification of Conservative councillor David Crome, who has not attended any meetings of the council in six months. Term ends 2015.
- Waveney district council: Byelection on 8 August in Oulton ward after the death of Labour councillor Mike Ives-Keeler. Term ends 2015. His death has given the Conservative administration an overall majority.
- Amber Valley district council: Byelection on 1 August in Codnor and Waingroves ward after the death of Labour councillor George Parkes. Term ends 2014.
- Boston borough council: Byelection on 5 September in Fenside ward, after the disqualification of English Democrats councillor Elliott Fountain who has not attended any meetings in six months. There are no meetings before 25 July which he can attend. Term ends 2015.
- Daventry district council: Vacancy in Ravensthorpe ward after the death of Conservative councillor Ken Melling. Term ends 2016. Meanwhile David James, who was elected for the Labour Party in Abbey North ward, has joined the Conservative Party.
- East Northamptonshire district council: Alex Smith was elected councillor for Thrapston Market ward on 25 July, holding the seat for the Conservative Party.
- Lincoln city council: Byelection on 22 August in Bracebridge ward after the disqualification of councillor Darren Grice who failed to attend any meetings for six months. Grice was originally elected as a Conservative but was sitting as an Independent at the time of his disqualification. Term ends 2015.
- Northamptonshire county council: Byelection on 5 September in Middleton Cheney division after the death of Conservative councillor Ken Melling. Term ends 2017.
- Brent borough council: Impending vacancy in Dudden Hill ward where Liberal Democrat councillor Rev David Clues has said he is intending to resign. He has been living and working in Brighton since December 2011.
- Royal Borough of Kingston-upon-Thames: Terry Paton was elected councillor for Beverley ward on 25 July. He wins for the Conservative Party a seat previously held by the Liberal Democrats.
- Lambeth borough council: Mary Atkins was elected councillor for Tulse Hill ward on 25 July, holding the seat for the Labour Party.
- Merton borough council: Byelection on 8 August in Colliers Wood ward after the death of Labour councillor Gam Gurung. Term ends 2014.
- Hartlepool council: Byelection on 15 August in Manor House ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Angie Wilcox. Term ends 2015.
- Redcar and Cleveland council: Byelection on 8 August in Skelton ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Dave McLuckie, who was convicted of perverting the course of justice. Term ends 2015.
- Carlisle city council: Byelection on 5 September in Yewdale ward after the death of the Leader of the Council, Professor Joe Hendry, who was a Labour councillor. Term ends 2015.
- Ribble Valley borough council: Byelection on 1 August in Littlemoor ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Christine Connor. Term ends 2015.
- St Helens borough council: Vacancy in Billinge and Seneley Green ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Alison Bacon. Term ends 2016.
- South Lakeland district council: Byelection on 29 August in Windermere Bowness North ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor and former council leader Hilary Stephenson. Term ends 2015.
- Canterbury city council: Vacancy in Seasalter ward after the death of veteran Conservative councillor Mike Sharp. Term ends 2015.
- East Hampshire district council: Vacancy in Four Marks and Medstead ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Pat Seward. Term ends 2015.
- Elmbridge borough council: Richard Knight was elected councillor for Weybridge South ward on 25 July, holding the seat for the Conservative Party.
- Hastings borough council: John Wilson, who was elected for the Conservatives in Ashdown ward, has joined the UK Independence Party.
- West Berkshire council: Byelection on 15 August in Hungerford ward after the death of Conservative councillor David Holtby, who was vice-chairman of the council. Term ends 2015.
- West Sussex county council: Vacancy in Storrington division after the death of Conservative councillor Frank Wilkinson. Term ends 2017.
- Wycombe district council: Byelection on 5 September in Hambleden Valley ward after the death of the Chairman of the council, Conservative councillor Roger Emmett. Term ends 2015.
- Cornwall council: Byelection on 5 September in Wadebridge East division after the resignation of Independent councillor Colin Brewer, prompted by a report from the Monitoring Officer into his comments about disabled children. Term ends 2017.
- Forest of Dean district council: There are two vacancies, both caused by the deaths of councillors. Coleford East ward was vacated by the death of Labour councillor Frank Baynham. Redmarley ward was vacated by Conservative councillor Peter Ede. Both terms end in 2015.
- North Somerset council: Derek Mead was elected councillor for Weston-super-Mare North Worle ward on 25 July. He stood as an Independent candidate, and takes a seat previously held by the Conservative Party.
- Swindon council: Byelection on 8 August in Haydon Wick ward after the death of Conservative councillor and former Mayor Rex Barnett. Term ends 2016. The Conservatives would lose their overall majority if they did not hold the seat.
- Torridge district council: Byelection on 15 August in Shebbear and Langtree ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor John Lewis. Term ends 2015.
- Cannock Chase district council: Two Conservative councillors have joined the UK Independence Party, citing their opposition to the HS2 rail project. They are John Bernard and Ann Bernard, both of whom represent Hawks Green ward.
- Dudley borough council: Vacancy in Coseley East ward after the death of Labour councillor and former Mayor George Davies. Term ends 2016.
- Walsall borough council: Byelection on 15 August in Aldridge Central and South ward after the death of Conservative councillor and former Mayor Tom Ansell. Term ends 2016.
- Worcestershire county council: Byelection on 1 August in St Mary’s division following the death of recently-elected UK Independence Party councillor Tony Baker. Term ends 2017.
- Barnsley borough council: Vacancy in Wombwell ward after the death of Labour councillor Denise Wilde. Term ends 2014.
- Doncaster borough council: Byelection on 22 August in Askern Spa ward after the disqualification of Labour councillor Ros Jones, now Mayor of Doncaster. Term ends 2014.
- North Yorkshire county council: Vacancy in Selby South division after the death of Conservative county councillor Margaret Hulme. Term ends 2017.
- Scarborough borough council: There are two byelections on 22 August, both caused by the resignations of councillors. Nick Brown (Conservative) has resigned from Ramshill ward and Mick Cooper (Independent) has resigned from Newby ward. Both terms end in 2015.
- Caerphilly county borough council: Byelection on 1 August in Penyrheol division after the death of Plaid Cymru councillor and former Mayor Anne Collins. Term ends 2017.
- Flintshire county council: Vacancy in Mostyn division after the disqualification of Independent councillor Patrick Heesom by the Adjudication Panel for Wales. Heesom has stated his intention to appeal to the High Court, which would have the effect of reinstating his membership while the appeal is decided.
- Neath Port Talbot county borough council: Vacancy in Sandfields East division after the death of Labour councillor Collin Crowley. Term ends 2017.
- Fife council: Vacancy in Dunfermline South ward after the death of Labour councillor Mike Rumney. Term ends 2017.
- Glasgow city council: Vacancy in Govan ward after the death of Scottish National Party councillor and former group leader Alison Hunter. Term ends 2017.
- Scottish Borders council: Impending vacancy in Tweeddale West ward, where Conservative councillor Nathaniel Buckingham has announced his resignation effective 29 July. Term ends 2017.
