The latest information about local electoral matters is as follows:

East Midlands

  • Ashfield district council: Vacancy in Sutton Central after the resignation of Labour councillor Mick Coppin. Term ends 2015. The byelection is likely to be held on 2 May.
  • Boston borough council: Vacancy in Staniland South ward after the death of Conservative councillor Paul Mould. Term ends 2015. The byelection is likely to be held on 2 May.
  • Chesterfield borough council: There are two byelections on 2 May, both due to the resignations of Labour councillors. St Helens ward has a vacant seat after the resignation of Angela Reynolds, and St Leonards ward has a vacant seat after the resignation of Nick Stringer. Both terms end in 2015.
  • Daventry district council: Vacancy in Brixworth ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Nick Bunting. Term ends 2016. The byelection is likely to be held on 2 May.
  • Derbyshire county council: Juliette Stevens, who was elected for the Conservatives in Heage division, has joined the UK Independence Party. Her move means that the Conservative administration has lost its overall majority. There is a vacancy in Buxton West division after the disqualification of Conservative county councillor Robin Baldry, who has been given a suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to theft of subsistence allowances. As his term was due to end in May, he will not be replaced in a byelection.
  • East Lindsey district council: Vacancy in Coningsby and Tattersall ward after the death of veteran Liberal Democrat councillor and former council chairman Ray Curtis. Term ends 2015.
  • Harborough district council: Vacancy in Thurnby and Houghton ward after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor and former council chairman Jan Tooley. Term ends 2015.
  • Kettering borough council: Vacancy in Welland ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Alison Wiley. Term ends 2015. The byelection is likely to be held on 2 May.
  • Leicester city council: Vacancy in Abbey ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Colin Marriott. Term ends 2015. The byelection is likely to be held on 2 May.
  • Leicestershire county council: The suspension of Tony Kershaw (Quorn and Barrow division) from the Conservative group has been lifted after the police decided to take no further action against him.
  • Lincolnshire county council: Vacancy in Lincoln Bracebridge division after the resignation of Conservative county councillor Rachel Hubbard due to ill health. As her term was due to end in May, she will not be replaced in a byelection.
  • Northamptonshire county council: Tony Clarke, who was elected as an Independent candidate in Castle division, has joined the Green Party although he will remain sitting as an Independent councillor.
  • Nottingham city council: There are two byelections on 4 April. That in Bilborough ward follows the death of Labour councillor and twice Sheriff of Nottingham, Derek Cresswell. That in Wollaton and Lenton East ward follows the resignation of Labour councillor Stuart Fox. Both terms end in 2015.
  • Rushcliffe borough council: Vacancy in Leake ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Brian Dale. Term ends 2015. The byelection is likely to take place on 2 May.
  • Wellingborough borough council: Vacancy in Earls Barton ward after the death of Labour councillor Peter Wright. Term ends 2015. The byelection is likely to take place on 2 May.

East of England

  • Babergh district council: Vacancy in Bures St. Mary ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Peter Holbrook. Term ends 2015. The byelection is likely to take place on 2 May.
  • Basildon borough council: Vacancy in Wickford Castledon ward after the death of Conservative councillor Sylvia Buckley. Term ends 2015. The byelection is likely to take place on 2 May.
  • Colchester borough council: Vacancy in West Mersea ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Glenn Granger. Term ends 2016. The byelection is likely to take place on 2 May.
  • Dacorum borough council: Byelection in Adeyfield West ward on 21 March after the resignation of Labour councillor Keith White, who has moved out of the district. Term ends 2015. There is an impending vacancy in Watling ward as Conservative councillor David Lloyd has said he will resign his seat next week to concentrate on his role as Police and Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire. The byelection is likely to be on 2 May. His term also ends in 2015.
  • East Hertfordshire district council: There are three seats vacant. Bishops Stortford Meads has a seat vacant after the resignation of Conservative councillor Jill Demonti. Buntingford ward has a seat vacant after the resignation of Conservative councillor Surjit Singh Basra due to ill health. Watton-at-Stone ward has a seat vacant after the resignation of veteran Conservative councillor Nigel Poulton. All three terms end in 2015 and the byelections are expected to be held on 2 May.
  • Essex county council: Vacancy in Rochford South division after the death of Conservative councillor Roy Pearson. As his term was due to end in May, there will be no byelection for his replacement.
  • Fenland district council: Kit Owen, who was elected for the Conservatives in March West ward, has been suspended from the Conservative group after pornographic images were downloaded onto his computer, although his explanation that it was the result of a computer virus is unchallenged. There is a byelection on 28 March in Parson Drove and Wisbech St Mary ward after the death of Conservative councillor Robert Scrimshaw. Term ends 2015.
  • Hertsmere borough council: Byelection on 2 May in Borehamwood Hillside ward following the resignation of Conservative councillor Hannah David to concentrate on her Parliamentary candidacy in Harrow West. Term ends 2016.
  • Huntingdonshire district council: Byelection on 2 May in Brampton ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat group leader Peter Downes. Term ends 2016.
  • Ipswich borough council: Vacancy in Alexandra ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Ken Bates. There is also an impending vacancy in Whitehouse ward where Labour councillor David Ball intends to resign as he is moving out of the borough. Both terms end in 2014 and the byelections are expected to be held on 2 May.
  • King’s Lynn and West Norfolk borough council: Vacancy in Snettisham ward after the death of Conservative councillor and former Mayor David Johnson. Term ends 2015.
  • Luton borough council: Byelection in Wigmore ward on Wednesday 10 April after the death of veteran Liberal Democrat councillor Roy Davies (who is not to be confused with veteran Luton Labour councillor Roy Davis). Term ends 2015.
  • Norfolk county council: Vacancy in North Coast division after the resignation of Stephen Bett, who has been elected Police and Crime Commissioner for Norfolk. He was elected as a Conservative but was sitting as an Independent at the time of his resignation. No byelection can be held because full council elections are due in May.
  • Norwich city council: Vacancy in Mancroft ward following the resignation of Green Party councillor Graeme Gee. Term ends 2014. The byelection is expected to be held on 2 May.
  • Rochford district council: There are two vacancies, both caused by the resignations of Conservative councillors. Hawkwell ward has a seat vacant following the resignation of Robert Pointer; the term ends in 2015. Whitehouse ward has a seat vacant following the resignation of Peter Webster; the term ends in 2014. Both byelections are expected to be held on 2 May.
  • St Edmundsbury borough council: Vacancy in Abbeygate ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Richard Rout. Term ends 2015.
  • South Cambridgeshire district council: Vacancy in Balsham ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Pauline Jarvis. Term ends 2014.
  • Tendring district council: Byelection on 28 March in Harwich West ward after the death of Labour councillor Les Double. Term ends 2015.
  • Uttlesford district council: Vacancy in Newport ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Peter Wilcock. Term ends 2015. The byelection is likely to be held on 2 May.
  • Watford borough council: Vacancy in Woodside ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Alan Burtenshaw. Term ends 2015. The byelection is likely to take place on 2 May.

London

  • Barking and Dagenham borough council: Vacancy in Longbridge ward after the death of the chairman of the council, Nirmal Singh Gill, who was a Labour councillor. Term ends 2014.
  • Camden borough council: Maeve McCormack was elected councillor for Gospel Oak ward on 14 March, holding the seat for the Labour Party.
  • City of London Corporation: Vacancy in Dowgate ward following the resignation of Common Councilman Robin Sherlock, Deputy for the ward since 2002. As full council elections are due in March, he will not be replaced in a byelection.
  • Havering borough council: Byelection on 21 March in Gooshays ward after the death of Conservative councillor Dennis Bull. Term ends 2014.
  • Islington borough council: There are two byelections on 21 March. That in Junction ward follows the resignation of Arthur Graves, who was elected as a Liberal Democrat but had resigned the whip in April 2012; he is emigrating to Australia. That in St George’s ward follows the resignation of Labour councillor Jessica Asato following her selection as Parliamentary candidate for Norwich North. Both terms end in 2014.
  • Lewisham borough council: Byelection on 28 March in Evelyn ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Joseph Folorunso who has decided to focus his attention on an orphanage he set up in Togo. Term ends 2014.

North East

  • Darlington council: Byelection on 11 April in Lascelles ward after the death of Labour councillor Jacqui Maddison. Term ends 2015.
  • Durham Council: Vacancy in Aycliffe West division after the death of Labour councillor Enid Paylor. As her term was due to end in May, she will not be replaced in a byelection.
  • Newcastle-upon-Tyne city council: There are two vacancies. Castle ward has a seat vacant after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Laverick. South Heaton ward has a seat vacant after the resignation of Labour councillor Henri Murison, who is moving out of the city. Both terms end in 2015.
  • Sunderland city council: Byelection on 2 May in Houghton ward after the death of Labour councillor Kath Rolph. Term ends 2015.

North West

  • Allerdale district council: There are two vacancies, both caused by the resignation of Conservative councillors. Derwent Valley ward has a seat vacant following the resignation of former council leader Tim Heslop, and Wampool ward has a seat vacant following the resignation of Stuart Moffat. Both terms end in 2015 and the byelections are expected to be held on 2 May.
  • Cheshire East council: Vacancy in Macclesfield Hurdsfield ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Gill Boston, who has been appointed to the East Cheshire Clinical Commissioning group. Term ends 2015.
  • Copeland borough council: Vacancy in Hensingham ward following the resignation of Labour councillor Norman Williams. Term ends 2015. The byelection is expected to be held on 2 May.
  • Cumbria county council: Vacancy in Distington and Moresby division after the death of Labour county councillor Cam Ross. As his term was due to end in May, he will not be replaced in a byelection.
  • Knowsley borough council: There are three byelections on 4 April, all caused by the deaths of sitting Labour councillors. Prescot East ward will elect a councillor after the death of Derek McEgan; the term ends in 2016. Prescot West ward will elect a successor to Bob Whiley; the term ends in 2015. St Michael’s ward will fill a vacancy left by the death of cabinet member Ken Keith. The term there ends in 2014.
  • Oldham borough council: Marie Bashforth was elected councillor for Royton South ward on 14 March, holding the seat for the Labour Party and joining her husband Steven as a councillor for the ward. There is a vacancy in Alexandra ward after the death of Labour councillor Dilys Fletcher; the term there ends in 2016.
  • Rochdale borough council: Vacancy in Norden ward after the death of Conservative councillor Ann Metcalfe. Term ends 2015.
  • St Helens borough council: Vacancy in Windle ward after the death of Labour councillor Pat Martinez-Williams. Term ends 2015.
  • Salford city council: Vacancy in Weaste and Seedley ward after the death of Labour councillor Jan Rochford. Term ends 2015.
  • Wigan borough council: Byelection on 4 April in Pemberton ward after the death of Labour councillor Barbara Bourne. Term ends 2015.
  • Wyre borough council: There are three vacancies. Park ward has a seat vacant after the resignation of Labour councillor Julie Grunshaw, and Pharos ward has a seat vacant following the resignation of her husband and fellow Labour councillor Clive Grunshaw, now Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire. Staina ward has a seat vacant after the death of Conservative councillor and current Deputy Mayor, Ian Perkin. Term ends 2015.

South East

  • Adur district council: Vacancy in Southlands ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Paul Graysmark. Term ends 2016.
  • Arun district council: Paul Wells, candidate of the Liberal Democrats, was elected councillor for Aldwick East on 14 March; he gains the seat from the Conservatives. There is a byelection in Angmering ward on 18 April following the death of Julie Hazlehurst. Term ends 2015.
  • Ashford borough council: Vacancy in Saxon Shore ward after the death of the leader of the council, Conservative councillor Peter Wood. Term ends 2015. The byelection is expected to be held on 2 May.
  • Canterbury city council: Vacancy in Seasalter ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Cyril Windsor, who is emigrating to Australia. Term ends 2015.
  • Cherwell district council: Vacancy in Hook Norton ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Victoria Irvine. Term ends 2015. The byelection is expected to be held on 2 May.
  • Dover district council: Vacancy in Maxton, Elms Vale and Priory ward after the death of Labour councillor and former Mayor Diane Smallwood. Term ends 2015.
  • Gravesham borough council: Byelection on 2 May in Painters Ash ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Colin Dennis. Term ends 2015.
  • Guildford borough council: There are three vacancies, all caused by the resignations of councillors. Ash South and Tongham ward has a seat vacant after the resignation of Conservative councillor Doug Richards. Ash Wharf ward has a seat vacant after the resignation of Conservative councillor John Randall. Stoughton ward has a seat vacant after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Wendy May. All three terms end in 2015 and the byelections are expected to be held on 2 May.
  • Havant borough council: Byelection on 2 May in Emsworth ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor David Gillett. Term ends 2014.
  • Horsham district council: There are two byelections on 2 May, both caused by the resignations of Conservative councillors. Chantry ward has a vacant seat after the resignation of Chris Mason. Cowfold, Shermanbury and West Grinstead ward has a vacant seat after the resignation of Andrew Dunlop. Both terms end in 2015.
  • Kent county council: Vacancy in Gravesham East division following the resignation of Conservative councillor Bryan Sweetland, who was elected county councillor for Gravesham Rural division on 20 December 2012. The Gravesham East division will not be filled in a byelection as the full council election is less than six months away.
  • Oxford city council: There are two vacancies, both caused by the resignation of Labour councillors. Churchill ward has a seat vacant following the resignation of Joe McManners. Rose Hill and Iffley ward has a seat vacant following the resignation of Antonia Bance. Both terms end in 2014 and the byelections are expected to be held on 2 May.
  • Reigate and Banstead borough council: Vacancy in South Park and Woodhatch ward after the death of Conservative councillor Frances King. Term ends 2014.
  • Runnymede borough council: Chris Browne was elected councillor for Foxhills ward on 14 March. He gains for the UK Independence Party a seat previously held by the Conservatives.
  • Spelthorne borough council: Sam Budd, who was elected for the Conservatives in Ashford North and Stanwell South ward, has left the party to join the Spelthorne Independent Group. There is a vacancy in Sunbury East ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Caroline Nichols. Term ends 2015. The byelection is expected to be held on 2 May.
  • Surrey county council: Vacancy in Earlswood and Reigate South division after the death of Conservative councillor Frances King. There will be no byelection as her term would have ended in May.
  • Tandridge district council: Impending vacancy in Burstow, Horne and Outwood ward due to the resignation on 11 March of Conservative councillor Michael Keenan, who is opposed to the Marriage (Same Sex couples) Bill. Term ends 2015.
  • Waverley borough council: Vacancy in Farnham Wrecclesham and Rowledge ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Nerissa Warner-O’Neill. Term ends 2015.
  • West Oxfordshire district council: There are two byelections on 2 May, both caused by the resignations of Conservative councillors. Carterton South ward follows the resignation of Joe Walcott; the term ends in 2014. Witney East ward follows the resignation of Sian Davies. The term ends in 2015.
  • Worthing borough council: Vacancy in Goring ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Steve Waight, now deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for West Sussex. Term ends 2014.
  • Wycombe borough council: Vacancy in Disraeli ward after the resignation of Labour councillor and outgoing group leader Victoria Groulef, who has been selected as Parliamentary candidate for Reading West. Term ends 2015.

South West

  • Cheltenham borough council: Vacancy in Warden Hill ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Josephine Tinkle. Term ends 2014. The byelection is expected to be held on 2 May.
  • Cornwall council: Armand Toms, who was elected for the Conservatives in Looe East division, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. He is a member of the cabinet and is opposed to the Conservative group’s budget amendment. There are three vacancies. Bodmin East division is vacant after the resignation of Independent councillor Collin Brewer, following controversial remarks about disabled children. Ludgvan division is vacant after the resignation of Independent councillor Irene Bailey due to ill health; Rame division is vacant after the resignation of Conservative councillor George Trubody, due to his non-council career. As there are full council elections due in May, there will not be byelections for replacements.
  • East Devon district council: Vacancy in Feniton and Buckerell ward after the resignation of Graham Brown, who earlier in the week had lost the Conservative whip. His resignation follows newspaper investigation of his work as a planning consultant.
  • Forest of Dean district council: Vacancy in Bromsberrow and Dymock ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Jim Connell. Term ends 2015. The byelection is expected to be held on 2 May.
  • Mendip district council: Vacancy in Ashwick, Chilcompton and Stratton ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Wayne Closier. Term ends 2015. The byelection is expected to be held on 2 May.
  • North Dorset district council: There are two byelections on 21 March following the resignations of a married couple of Conservative councillors. Former council leader Peter Webb has vacated The Stours ward while his wife Helen Webb has vacated Lodbourne ward. Both terms end in 2015.
  • Stroud district council: Vacancy in Cam East ward after the resignation (due to ill health) of the chairman of the council, John Hudson, who was elected as a Conservative councillor but sitting as an Independent. Term ends 2014. The byelection is likely to be on 2 May.
  • West Dorset district council: Vacancy in Cam Vale ward after the death of Conservative councillor Richard Jungius. Term ends 2015.

West Midlands

Yorkshire and the Humber

  • East Riding of Yorkshire council: There are two vacancies, both caused by the resignations of Conservative councillors in connection with the Police and Crime Commissionership for Humberside. Mid Holderness ward has a vacancy due to the resignation of Matthew Grove, now Police and Crime Commissioner. Howdenshire ward has a vacancy due to the resignation of Paul Robinson, now Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner. Both terms end in 2015 and the byelections are expected to take place on 2 May.
  • Hambleton district council: Vacancy in Whitestonecliffe ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Nigel Clack. Term ends 2015.
  • Leeds city council: Vacancy in Cross Gates and Whinmoor ward after the death of Labour councillor Suzi Armitage. Term ends 2016.
  • North East Lincolnshire council: Byelection on 4 April in Humberston and New Waltham ward after the death of Conservative councillor and former Mayor John Colebrook. Term ends 2014.
  • Scarborough borough council: Vacancy in Streonshalh ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Sandra Turner. Term ends 2015. The byelection is expected to take place on 2 May.
  • Sheffield city council: Vacancy in Fulwood ward after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Janice Sidebottom. Term ends 2014.
