The latest information about other local council electoral matters is as follows:

East Midlands

East of England

London

North East

  • Durham county council: John Turnbull was elected as councillor for Brandon ward on 30 September holding the seat for the Labour Party. There is a byelection on 14 October in Deneside ward after the death of Labour former council leader Albert Nugent. Both terms end in 2013.
  • North Tyneside borough council: Lesley Spillard of the Labour Party was elected councillor for Battle Hill ward on 30 September, holding the seat for her party.
  • Northumberland county council: Byelection on 4 November in Ponteland East division after the death of Conservative councillor Mel Armstrong. Term ends 2013.
  • Stockton-on-Tees borough council: There are three vacancies. First, Billingham East ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Alex Cunningham, now MP for Stockton North. Second, Ingleby Barwick East ward, caused by the resignation of Ingleby Barwick Independent Society member Andrew Larkin. Third, Mandale and Victoria ward, after the death of councillor Allison Trainer, who was a member of the Thornaby Independent Association. All three terms end in May 2011.

  • Chiltern district council: There are two byelections on 21 October. Ashley Green, Latimer and Chenies ward will poll after the death of Conservative councillor Graham Sussum, and Great Missenden ward will poll after the resignation of Independent councillor Bob Swayne, who was elected as a Conservative. Term ends May 2011.
  • Crawley borough council: Byelection on 7 October in Tilgate ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Lawrence Taylor due to work commitments. Term ends 2012.
  • Elmbridge borough council: There are two byelections on 21 October. That in Hersham North is for a term ending in 2012 and arises from the resignation of Conservative councillor Doug Packer, who is moving out of the borough; that in St George’s Hill ward is for a term ending May 2011 and follows the death of John Bartlett, an Independent councillor and former cabinet member.
  • Hampshire county council: Byelection on 21 October in Andover South division after the death of Conservative councillor David Kirk. Term ends 2013.
  • Isle of Wight council: Byelection on 11 November in Chale, Niton and Whitwell ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor William Myatt-Willington. Term ends 2013.
  • Medway council: Byelection on 21 October in River ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor David Craggs, who was a councillor for only 13 days. He was advised that he could not serve as a councillor and a Special Constable at the same time. Term ends May 2011.
  • Mole Valley district council: Byelection on 21 October in Capel, Leigh and Newdigate ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Philip Warren. Term ends 2014.
  • Oxford city council: Byelection on 21 October in Barton and Sandhills ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat deputy leader Patrick Murray who is moving out of the city. Term ends 2012.
  • Tunbridge Wells district council: Byelection on 7 October in St James ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Mary Lewis. Term ends 2012.
  • West Sussex county council: Byelection on 7 October in Maidenbower division due to the impending resignation of former council leader Henry Smith, who is now MP for Crawley. Term ends 2013.
  • Winchester city council: Byelection on 14 October in St Paul ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Karen Barratt. If the Liberal Democrats do not win, then they will lose their majority on the council. Term ends May 2011.

South West

  • Cheltenham borough council: Byelection on 28 October in Springbank ward after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor John Morris. Term ends 2012.
  • Mendip district council: Byelection on 21 October in Ashwick, Chilcompton and Stratton ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Maxine Oxford. Term ends May 2011.
  • Poole council: Vacancy in Poole Town ward after the death of council leader and Conservative councillor Brian Leverett. Term ends May 2011.
  • Sedgemoor district council: The Conservative Party candidate Alison Hamlin was elected councillor for Woolavington ward on 30 September. This is a gain of a seat previously held by the Labour Party.
  • Swindon borough council: Byelection on 4 November in Moredon ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Steph Exell. Term ends May 2011.

West Midlands

Yorkshire and the Humber

  • Leeds city council: Byelection on 14 October in Guiseley and Rawdon ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Stuart Andrew, now MP for Pudsey. Term ends May 2011.
  • Scarborough borough council: Johan Zegstroo of the Liberal Democrats was elected councillor for Eastfields ward on 24 September, holding the seat for his party.
  • Sheffield city council: Byelection on 21 October in Manor Castle ward after the death of Labour councillor and former council leader Jan Wilson. Term ends 2014.
  • York city council: Byelection on 14 October in Hull Road ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Roger Pierce due to ill health. Term ends May 2011.

  • Moray council: Byelection on 11 November in Forres ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Iain Young. Term ends 2012.
  • South Lanarkshire council: Byelection on 28 October in East Kilbride West ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Michael McCann, now MP for East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow. Term ends 2012.
