Labour gained the Castle ward of Tamworth borough council in a byelection last night, but was unable to hold on in Brookside ward of Telford and Wrekin council where the Conservatives took a seat formerly held by Labour in a mixed ward.

The Conservatives also gained Holy Trinity ward of Guildford borough council from the Liberal Democrats. The Lib Dems held on to Hadleigh North ward of Babergh district council(in south Suffolk).
